South Sea pearls are among the world’s rarest and most highly prized cultured pearls, renowned for their exceptional size, thick nacre and distinctive natural lustre.

Grown in the Pinctada maxima, or South Sea pearl oyster, these pearls are cultivated in the pristine tropical waters of Australia, Indonesia and surrounding regions. Unlike freshwater pearls, a South Sea pearl can take several years to produce, with each oyster typically cultivating only one pearl at a time. This slow and delicate process contributes to their rarity, beauty and value.

South Sea pearls occur naturally in a beautiful spectrum of colours, from luminous white and silver through to cream and rich golden tones. No two pearls are exactly alike, with variations in lustre, surface, shape, shade and size forming part of their unique character.

How should I care for my pearls?

Wear your pearls regularly
Pearls are made to be worn. The natural oils from your skin can help maintain their beautiful lustre, making regular wear one of the pleasures of owning fine pearl jewellery.

Put your pearls on last
Apply perfume, hairspray, makeup, moisturiser and other beauty products before putting on your pearl jewellery. Chemicals found in cosmetics and fragrances can affect the surface and lustre of a pearl over time.

Remove pearls before swimming or showering
Do not wear pearl jewellery in the shower, swimming pool, ocean, spa or sauna. Chlorine, salt water, soaps and other chemicals can damage pearls and may also weaken the silk or materials used to string pearl necklaces and bracelets.

Gently clean pearls after wearing
After each wear, gently wipe your pearls with a clean, soft, slightly damp cloth to remove oils, perspiration and residue. Avoid abrasive cloths, jewellery cleaners, ultrasonic cleaners and harsh chemicals.

Store pearls separately
Pearls are softer than many other gemstones and metals. Store your pearl jewellery separately in a soft pouch or lined jewellery box to prevent scratching. Avoid storing pearls in airtight or excessively dry environments for extended periods.

How do you clean South Sea pearls?

For everyday cleaning, gently wipe South Sea pearls with a soft, damp cloth and allow them to dry naturally before storing. If your pearls require a deeper clean, we recommend having them professionally cleaned by a pearl or jewellery specialist.

Never use ultrasonic or steam cleaners, abrasive products, household cleaning chemicals or conventional jewellery dips on pearls.
